NAACP Wichita branch president Kenya Cox has accepted a new position to aid African-American communities across Kansas.
Cox has been named executive director of the Kansas African American Affairs Commission. Their mission includes developing strategies to address public policy concerns of the African American community.
Cox says equal opportunity has not guaranteed equal access.
"What I’m hoping to be able to do is to give the community an opportunity to receive information and access to initiatives and resources that are available," she says, "and how we can network [with] and partner with the different state agencies the different non-profit organizations to strengthen our community."
Most recently, Cox served as the assistant regional director for community service for the Kansas Department for Children and Families. She previously served as the senior constituent service representative for Congressman Mike Pompeo, and was the 4th District congressional liaison for Congressman Todd Tiahrt.
Cox starts her new position Jan. 11.
