Special: It’s International Coffee Day and Global Village celebrates with some great java songs and music from coffee countries around the world. The show highlights songs about coffee from Bob Marley, Willie Bobo, Otis Redding, and Herbie Mann; from the Qat Coffee and Qambus, and Music from the Coffee Lands compilations; and from musicians from the coffee-growing countries of Jamaica (Ernest Ranglin), Ethiopia (Mulatu Astatke), Colombia (Afrosound), Kenya (the Rift Valley Brothers) and more.
Strange Currency and Night Train also celebrate Coffee Day tonight.
Tuesday September 30
Barretto, Bellowhead, Bhangra, Bassekou and the Beat– Global Village will "B" busy this time with those artists and more. A late ‘60s Latin soul classic and the first album on Fania from Ray Barretto, acclaimed contemporary English folk-rock band Bellowhead, music from the Rough Guide to Bhangra, a soul classic from the English Beat, and the acclaimed Malian band, Bassekou Kouyate & Ngnoi Ba with recent Americana Awards Lifetime Achievement recipient, Taj Mahal.
Wednesday October 1
Global Village kicks off the October feature of music from Haiti with music from the recent groundbreaking Haiti Direct compilation. Plus birthday salutes to Senegal’s Youssou ‘N’Dour, bassist Dave Holland, and reggae singer Yami Bolo.
Thursday October 2
Special: Global Village celebrates Gandhi Day (a national holiday in India and also the UN-designated International Day of Non-Violence) with a wide array of music from India. Highlights include music from Ravi Shankar, his daughter Anoushka Shankar, guitarist Prasanna (who also was born on this date), the Jaipur Kawa Brass Band, the Soul March release commemorating Gandhi’s Salt March, and the Psychedelic Bollywood compilation.

New Month/New Music Special: Each month, the Global Village New Month/New Music show features the best of new world music releases. Highlights this time include:
