October Comes To A Close With New Music From Elijah Ocean And Sunbears

Monday, October 27: Based in Bloomington, Indiana Lily and Madeleine are sisters in their late teens whose sophisticated sound recalls bands such as Arcade Fire and Fleet Foxes as well as Swedish sister act First Aid Kit. We’ll hear selections from Fumes, the brand new release by Lily and Madeleine as well as music from Jacksonville, Florida’s psychedelic rock outfit Sunbears. We'll also remember bass legend Jack Bruce, who died Saturday.

Tuesday, October 28: Completed after his death in late 2001, Brainwashed represents the final studio recordings of George Harrison. Featuring some of his finest songs, Brainwashed is an album unconcerned with commercial success and yet demonstrates why Harrison emerged as a major songwriter in his final days as a Beatle and beyond. We’ll hear from that recording as well as from Concert For George, which documents a tribute concert held one year after the former Beatle’s death and featuring appreances from friends such as Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Tom Petty & Jeff Lynne.

Wednesday, October 29: Elijah Ocean is an American singer-songwriter whose songs are in the style of Neil Young, The Band, and Gram Parsons. We’ll hear selections from his new release, Bring It All In as well as selections from Raising Sand, the 2007 collaborative effort from Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.

Thursday, October 30: Released in late 1993, Cure For Pain was the second release from Boston-based band Morphine. Led by bassist/vocalist Mark Sandman the trio produced a sound they coined “low rock,” featuring Sandman on a two-string bass and the saxophone playing of Dana Colley, known for playing baritone and tenor sax at the same time. We’ll hear selections from that album as well as Airports For Light, the 2003 release from The Vandermark 5, led by saxophonist Ken Vandermark.

Friday, October 31: It’s our annual Halloween celebration; listen for selections from Phish, Goblin, Bloodrock and others.
