Otis Redding's 75th

September 9/11

Crossroads teams up with Global Village and Strange Currency to mark what would have been Otis Redding’s 75th birthday. We’ll hear the first tracks the Southern Soul legend did with Stax, classic recordings from throughout his career, several of his posthumous albums, which also featured a number of his classics, and a couple of great Redding covers.

Plus Crossroads continues the other September feature – music from Crescent City and other fun and funky brass bands – with music this time from the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, the Rebirth Brass Band, New Orleans Nightcrawlers, and Hustlers Brass Band.

And there’s new music from Janiva Magness, the Bo-Keys, David Vest, Albert Castiglia and more.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
