Having played in bands such as Hospital Ships and Your Friend, Nathan Dixey has just issued his solo debut album under the name The Dan Ryan. Described as a “a downstream float through a rainbow river,” the record soaks in influence from Dixey’s home base of Austin, Texas while marrying those sounds with pieces of his past projects. We’ll hear selections from The Dan Ryan’s self-titled LP along with music from Honey Radar’s latest, Blank Cartoon.

Friday, June 10

Best known for his work with the electronic-driven unit Hot Chip, Alexis Taylor offers a new solo LP, Piano, which finds him alone with that instrument, interpreting songs from his past, as well as some of his favorite tunes by others artists and some originals. The result is an intimate and pure-sounding record that will set a new standard in Taylor’s output. We’ll hear selections from this release on this episode of Strange Currency as well as selections from the latest by singer-songwriter Haroula Rose, Here The Blue River.

Saturday, June 11

Alison Mosshart and Jamie Hince, the duo also known as The Kills are back after 5 years with the release of their long-awaited fifth album Ash & Ice. Listen for selections from this release as well as music from the self-titled LP from Reeves Gabrels and His Imaginary Friends.

It is hard to imagine that something called Krautgaze could grow up in any other place than Berlin. In its glittering darkness, the city is a perfect breeding ground for a band like Suns of Thyme: The five-piece crashes together space rock, shoegaze, psych and Velvet Underground on its sophomore album Cascades. We’ll hear selections from that release on this episode of Strange Currency as well as music from The Top, the 1984 release from The Cure.

Tuesday, June 14

Breakin’ Point is the latest release from Peter Bjorn and John. We’ll hear selections from it on this episode of the show as well as music from the latest album by Paul Simon.

Wednesday, June 15

Listen for selections from Paul McCartney’s 1989 album Flowers In The Dirt. The record features songs co-written with Elvis Costello, including the hit “My Brave Face.” We’ll also hear from Costello’s album from the same time, Spike, which features the song “Veronica,” another McCartney co-write.
