PHOTOS: Wichita Encapsulated In A Winter Storm
The National Weather Service's winter storm warning delivered on its forecast of heavy snowfall in the Wichita area.
Accumulation started later than its forecasted time - but by 4 p.m. Tuesday, there was approximately six inches of snow on the ground.
According to Joe Pajor, deputy director of Wichita Public Works and Utilities, crews of 100 workers mobilized on Monday night and will continue to work 12-hour shifts until roadways are clear.
"That's a long shift to operate, especially in conditions like this," he said."But we work with the operators to make sure they are getting frequent breaks and taking care of themselves."
The winter storm warning for the Wichita area will continue until 12 a.m. Wednesday.
Wichita Public Schools have cancelled classes for Wednesday.
