You can see Glory Days in a very limited engagement Friday and Saturday at Newman University’s Jabara Black Box Theatre. A year after graduating high school, four best friends reconnect on their old school’s football field to recreate the good old days. Will has called the boys together with a mission: to hack into the school’s sprinkler system so that it goes off when the jocks who bullied them in high school take the field for a charity game. But as the guys wait for instructions on how to break into the system, they quickly realize how dramatically their lives have grown apart. With a soaring pop-rock score, Glory Days is a poignant and witty coming-of-age story about friends searching for validation as they face the consequences of growing up that resonates with the young and old alike.
The Say What? improvisational comedy group performs Saturday, June 15 at the Empire House Theater at the Old Cowtown Museum, and also coming to that venue is William Shakespeare’s Two Gentlemen Of Verona on June 22.
And between June 12 and 16 you can see Monty Python’s Spamalot. The Tony Award-winning musical is a witty and raucous re-telling of the legend of King Arthur, “lovingly ripped off” from the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
Finally, Kechi Playhouse presents You Take The Cakenow through June 30. This comedy is set in a bakery during prohibition—featuring two gangsters, two lovable vagrants, a cop, and a crazy would-be actress who bakes cakes.
