At Play Theatre Roundup: Feb 4 - Feb 17

Coming to the Wichita theatre community is the world premiere of Radiating Like a Stone, adapted by adapted by Anne Welsbacher and Gina Austin-Fresh from the book of essays, “Radiating Like a Stone: Wichita Women and the 1970s Feminist Movement,” collected and edited by Myrne Roe.

As Adele and her teenage daughter Zoey pack for their move, items they pull from trunks and boxes—a bikini, a bumper sticker, an infant’s never-worn shirt—propel Adele into memories of the 1970s women’s movement in her hometown of Wichita, Kan. She is stunned to learn that her 16-year-old daughter is not only unaware of how much happened in that tumultuous decade, she is oblivious to how recently won many women’s achievements have been.

This original script brings selections from Myrne Roe’s book and some of its noted contributors to life, including Nola Foulston, Anita Skeen, and many more in Wichita’s artistic, social, political, and academic communities, as well as “ordinary” women who did extraordinary things.

Radiating Like a Stone features an ensemble cast that includes Danzel Muzingo Bond, Deb Campbell, Kay Carroll, Joyce Cavarozzi, Sanda Moore Coleman, Trisha Garnes, Terri Ingram, Suzanna Matthews, Teri Mott, Carol Wilson, and Beth Wise. Gina Austin directs.

Performances begin at 8 p.m. Feb. 13-16 and 2 p.m., Feb. 17 at The Wichita Center for the Arts, 9112 E. Central.

Also coming up is a production of Yasmina Reza’s dark comedy, God of Carnage, at Fisch Haus. February 15-17.
