Candidates for the Wichita Public Schools Board of Education are set to participate in a series of forums over the next few weeks before local elections in November.
Four seats on the board are up for election this fall, in districts 1, 2, 5 and 6.
Board president Mike Rodee and Board member Betty Arnold are both running for re-election; Lynn Rogers, who won a seat on the state Legislature last year, and Joy Eakins will leave once their terms are up in January.
Wichita Independent Neighborhoods, Kansas Appleseed, Women for Kansas and Voter Empowerment are each hosting forums over the coming weeks. The events will give voters a chance to hear from candidates on issues that affect students in the area before the general election on Nov. 7.
Scheduled forums include:
- Monday, Sept. 18, at 5:30 p.m. at United Way of the Plains. Hosted by Wichita Independent Neighborhoods (Wichita City Council candidates will also participate in a forum at the meeting).
- Sunday, Sept. 24, at 4 p.m. at Tabernacle Bible Church. Hosted by Voter Empowerment.
- Monday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. at the Wichita Public Library Central Branch. Hosted by Kansas Appleseed.
- Saturday, Oct. 7, at 12 p.m. at SEIU Kansas. Hosted by Women for Kansas-Wichita Chapter.
