Public Review Of Regional Transportation Plan To End

Sean Sandefur

The Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization, or WAMPO, is hosting a public meeting Monday to get feedback on its long-range regional transportation plan.

Planner Gloria Jeff says WAMPO is developing a blueprint to guide the next 25 years worth of investment in projects and programs for nearly all forms of transportation.

"It looks at the transportation system, not just as highway bridges and roadways, but at all of its multi-modal components," she says. "It looks at transit, it looks at safety issues around railroads, it looks at how effectively we move truck traffic in and out of the metropolitan area."

Jeff says the proposed plan focuses on 174 projects throughout south central Kansas.

The organization serves 22 cities and three counties in south central Kansas.

A final plan will be presented at a Transportation Policy Meeting on July 14 at 3pm. It will take place on the 10th floor of City Hall, located at. 455 N. Main.

WAMPO’s governing body, the Transportation Policy Body, is composed of elected officials of the member jurisdictions. Additional members of the body include representatives from U.S. Department of Transportation and the Kansas Department of Transportation.
