Lots of rainfall and average temperatures throughout Kansas means the state’s winter wheat crops are doing well.

According to the latest report from the National Agricultural Statistics Service, 90 percent of Kansas’ winter wheat is rated either fair, good or excellent. The majority of crops are also more mature when compared to last year.

The USDA is forecasting Kansas farmers will harvest 30 million more bushels than 2015, an increase of more than 8 percent. Corn is also doing well throughout the state, with nearly 100 percent of crops rated either fair, good or excellent.

Winter wheat is harvested in June and July.

More from the weekly National Agricultural Statistics Service:

  • Pasture and range conditions in Kansas rated 0 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 60 percent good, and 7 percent excellent
  • Amount of corn planted was 63 percent, ahead of the 62 percent recorded last year and the 59 percent average
  • An average of one inch of rain was recorded throughout Kansas in the past week
