Tuesday, September 16: Lateness of Dancers is the latest release from musicians M.C. Taylor and Scott Hirsch who perform under the name Hiss Golden Messenger. The music is acoustic-based and intimate with songs that touch on hard times and the hopes and fears of raising a family, among many other topics. We’ll hear from that recording as well as from lullaby and…the Ceaseless Roar, the latest release from September featured artist Robert Plant.
Wednesday, September 17: Given is the new album from Portland, Oregon-based singer-songwriter Kevin Lee Florence. The record features guest appearances from a wide range of musicians including Garth Hudson of The Band. We’ll hear from that recording as well as from Dogs In The Daylight by Jeffrey Martin.
Thursday, September 18: New York based musician Ken Thomson has built a career working in a variety of musical settings that range from jazz to classical and beyond. Joining with the collective Slow/Fast for the new album Settle, Thomson has delivered a record remarkable in its musical scope and attention to compositional detail. We’ll hear from that release as well as from Bop Kabbalah the recent album from Thomson’s bandmate in the group Gutbucket, Ty Citerman.
Friday, September 19: Formed in Kentucky 20 years ago June of 44 released a handful of influential albums in the post-hardcore/math rock genre between 1994 and 1999. We’ll hear from the band’s highly-regarded third album, 1998’s Four Great Points. Plus selections from Give Me All Your Money, the 2005 release from now-defunct Kansas band Doris Henson.
Saturday, September 20: Formed in Olympia, Washington in 1989, Earth is considered one of the pioneering acts in the drone metal genre but the band has gone through numerous distinct stages in its recording career, incorporating elements of folk, jazz, and country music in recent years. We’ll hear from the group’s most recent effort, Primitive and Deadly, the group’s first recording since 1996 to feature vocals. The album includes guest appearances from members of Built To Spill, Narrows, and singer-songwriter Mark Lanegan. Plus selections from the soundtrack to Jim Jarmusch’s 1995 film Dead Man.
Monday, September 22: Single Mothers is the new album from Justin Townes Earle, we’ll hear from that as well as from the new self-titled album from Ryan Adams.
