Released in 2002, Lifted or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground became the breakthrough release for Bright Eyes. The record was also later listed as one of the best albums of the decade by a variety of critics. Listen for selections from that release as well as new music from Faun Fables.

Monday, September 19

Recorded over four days in early 1987, Bring the Family found John Hiatt in the company of Ry Cooder, Nick Lowe and Jim Keltner. The four created what became Hiatt’s breakthrough album and set the Indiana native on a three-decade path of critical acclaim and increased commercial fortunes. We’ll hear selections from that release as well as music from Carolina, the latest release by Spain. 

Tuesday, September 20

Released in 1988, Out of the Silent Planet was the sophomore release from King’s X. We’ll hear selections from that release on this episode of the show as well as music from Profit, the latest release from The Jelly Jam, the band featuring King’s X guitarist Ty Tabor.

Matthew Cooper has been recording under the name Eluvium since 2003. Based in Portland, Oregon, the musician’s ambient sounds and experimental tendencies have earned him rave reviews with each of his releases. The latest, False Readings On is no exception. Somber and meditative the record is being hailed as Eluvium’s best yet. We’ll hear selections from this recording as well as music from a new release by Thor and Friends, featuring Thor Harris of the band Swans.

Jedd Beaudoin is host/producer of the nationally syndicated program Strange Currency. He has also served as an arts reporter, a producer of A Musical Life and a founding member of the KMUW Movie Club. As a music journalist, his work has appeared in Pop Matters, Vox, No Depression and Keyboard Magazine.
