Sedgwick County Commission Candidate David Dennis

A candidate in the Sedgwick County Commission race for District 3 is getting support from City of Wichita leaders.

David Dennis describes himself as a conservative Republican. He is challenging Karl Peterjohn for the commission’s District 3 seat in the August 2nd primary election.

Dennis picked up endorsements Tuesday from Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell and city council members Pete Meitzner (City Council District II) and Bryan Frye (City Council District V).

"I think their (endorsements) are critical because some of the comments that they made when they endorsed me was the same thing as I’ve been saying along, is that we need to start building bridges across Central Avenue instead of walls. And right now there is a wall across Central Avenue," Dennis says.

Dennis is a retired Air Force Colonel who has spent the last nine years serving on the Metropolitan Area Planning Commission.

Peterjohn has represented District 3 for eight years. He says he’s a constitutional conservative, and this is the last time he's going to run for the county commission.

District 3 covers the western half of the county from West Wichita to Cheney.
