The decision on whether or not Tyson foods will build a chicken processing plant in Sedgwick County remains unclear, but one county commissioner says it won’t be any time soon.
In a newsletter sent out this week, 3rd District County Commissioner David Dennis told his constituents that he doesn’t believe a decision on the Tyson processing plant will come before next summer.
“And actually later, after I wrote my newsletter, I found out that it might be as long as two years before we hear anything,” Dennis says.
Dennis also says there are a number of questions they want answered before any decision will be made. He's particularly interested in learning what impacts the facility would have on the area's water system and roads.
Tyson officials say they are considering locations in three Kansas counties to build a $300 million chicken processing facility. They claim it will create as many as 1,500 jobs.
