September Hispanic Heritage Month Feature With Latin Soul And Spanish Blues

September 12/14

With the start of the annual Hispanic Heritage Month celebration only days away (it runs Sept.15 –Oct. 15), Crossroads embarks on a rather different feature this month, highlighting Latin soul and Spanish blues.

Throughout September, Crossroads will showcase classic Latin soul sounds and also shine a light on the vibrant, if little known (in the U.S.) blues scene in Spain. Highlights this time include music from Spain’s Vargas Blues Band (from Texas Tango, an album that also featured the Double Trouble band) and Ratones Paranoicos (the Paranoid Mice) and Latin soul tracks from Ben E. King, Mink Deville, Carlos Santana with John Lee Hooker, and more.

Plus new music from Albert Castiglia, Tweed Funk, Rachelle Coba, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, the Mannish Boys and more.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
