Four Kansas swift-water rescue teams and their boats are in Texas to help with flood evacuations in response to Tropical Storm Harvey.
Nearly 61 rescue team members were sent from across the state including the Kansas Fire Marshal's Office, Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism and the Sedgwick County, Hutchinson and Newton Fire Departments.
“They will be using different types of water equipment to do search and rescue of humans, animals," says Katie Horner with the state Adjutant General's Department. "[They're] continuing to work through some areas as water continues to rise as the water is released from the reservoirs, and in some areas where the water resides. They also help do search and rescue in those areas as well."
Hard-bottom, air boats and inflatable boats will be used to help in the rescue effort. The teams will provide basic life support and medical care to those in need.
