Shockers' Gregg Marshall Agrees To New Contract With Wichita State

Sean Sandefur

After a tense week of waiting, Shockers fans everywhere can (almost) officially relax. Head Basketball Coach Gregg Marshall has agreed to a new contract with Wichita State.

The terms of the contract won’t be disclosed until Gregg Marshall signs on the dotted line, but it’s expected to be a significant raise from his current salary of $1.85 million.

Alabama made their pitch for Marshall to "Roll Tide" and fill their open head coaching position. Marshall went with the team he’s helped send to four-straight NCAA Tournaments—a team that’s still on the heels of a tough Sweet-Sixteen loss to Notre Dame.

In that post game interview, Marshall talked about his relationship with his players.

“I love these kids, wonderful human beings, great students, great people, and they represent our fine university in a first-class way,” Marshall said.

The anxiety isn’t quite over for Shockers fans, as Junior Guards Fred VanVleet and Ron Baker have both filed with the NBA advisory committee, who will evaluate their status for the upcoming draft.

Gregg Marshall has stated previously that he expects both to return for their senior seasons.
