As the holiday season approaches, stages across the city light up with all the traditions we love so well. If you like your festivities with a Celtic flavor, the Orpheum Theatre is playing host to “An Irish Christmas,” a collection of music, song, dance, and story-telling, led by the Kerry Dance Troupe. It's a high-energy family show, and a one-night only performance, on Wednesday, December 9th.
Opera Kansas offers up the classic “Amahl and the Night Visitors” on November 29th at the Mary Jane Teall Theatre in Century II. For many children, this traditional story is their introduction to opera.
Holiday-themed shenanigans can be found at both Roxy's Downtown and Mosley Street Melodrama through December, and Wichita Community Theatre is presenting “A Christmas Story,” from November 27th to December 12th.
Another family favorite is onstage at the Scottish Rite Center: you can enjoy the exuberant musical “Fiddler on the Roof” from December 3rd to the 5th. Also at the Scottish Rite Center, Venue 332, Forum Theatre is producing an original musical adaptation of “A Christmas Carol.” Show dates are December 10th to the 12th, and December 17th to the 19th.
Not onstage but outdoors and still a lovely show: Illuminations at Botanica. You can stroll the gardens in full holiday swing from Nov. 27th to Dec. 31st.
I am indeed thankful for the bounty of entertainment the city continues to provide against all odds.
