Southwest Airlines will no longer provide nonstop flights to Dallas and Chicago from Wichita starting tomorrow. KMUW’s Sean Sandefur reports that two other cities will replace the routes.
Southwest is ending their nonstop service to the Chicago Midway and Dallas Love Field airports due to lack of passengers. Instead, nonstop flights will travel to Phoenix and St. Louis.
Valerie Wise, a spokeswoman for Wichita’s Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport, says there will be positive aspects for passengers.
“The St. Louis Airport is a much easier airport to navigate. It’s not as congested as the larger hubs," she says. "Plus, it has a lot of connectivity to major airports to the east.”
Wise says that flights through Phoenix will do the same for cities on the West Coast, like Seattle, San Diego and Los Angeles. She adds that Southwest will now be competing with United and American Airlines for several destinations, which could drive down airfares.
Southwest Airlines will offer two flights to St. Louis per day, and one flight to Phoenix.
