SPECIAL: International Day Of Human Space Flight

KMUW Music is celebrating International Day of Human Space Flight, marking the first human flight in outer space by Yuri Gagarin in 1961. Tune in to Global Village, Strange Currency and Night Train from 7:00 p.m. to midnight on Thursday, April 12 for five hours of space-inspired music.

Global Village celebrates the occasion with some out of this world sounds from Sun Ra, The Byrds, The Bonzo Dog Band, Les Baxter, Funkadelic, Sheb Wooley, Piccola Orchestra Gagarin, and in honor of one of the first dogs sent into space, music from the Finnish rock band, Laika & the Cosmonauts.

International Day of Human Space Flight continues on Strange Currency from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Night Train closes out the special feature with space inspired music from Joshua Breakstone, Diana Krall, Tito Puente and, of course, Sun Ra. It’s also Herbie Hancock’s birthday and we’ll hear some space-related music from him in hour one and feature a special focused on his breakthrough work in the 1960s in hour two of the show.

  • Global Village | 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
  • Strange Currency | 8:00 - 10:00 p.m.
  • Night Train | 10:00 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
