Boeing has secured an order with India's Jet Airways for 75 737 Max aircrafts. The deal announced Monday at the Dubai Airshow could be worth more than $8 billion. Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita builds the fuselages and other parts for the 737s, which are assembled near Seattle.
Spirit spokesperson Jarrod Bartlett says this is business as usual for the aircraft parts manufacturer.
Bartlett says anytime that Boeing is announcing sales of the 737, it’s good news for Wichita.
He says the new airplanes will be delivered on their regular schedule to Boeing. Bartlett says Spirit currently delivers 42 737s a month, the highest rate ever.
"The demand is expected to continue for the next couple of decades," Bartlett says. "We're already scheduled to increase our rates to 47 a month and then 52 a month by 2018."
There are nearly 11,000 employees at Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita, and 15,000 worldwide.
