Talk Like A Pirate Day, Peace Day, First Day Of Fall & Boogaloo

Monday, September 18

Lots of music from Brazil this time in the Global Village. We mark the birthday of Brazilian born, US based pianist and composer Jovino Santos Neto with music from his own releases and also as a guest with mandolinist Mike Marshall and singer Sandy Cressman. Plus new Brazilian sounds from Ensemble Novo, Paul McCandless making a guest appearance with Brazilian singer Renato Braz on a forthcoming compilation, and a Brazilian flavored piece off the new album from Ladama.

Tuesday, September 19

It’s Talk Like a Pirate Day! In honor of the occasion, Global Village has a special show filled with songs about pirates from the likes of Roger McGuinn, Marianne Faithfull, Al Stewart, the Almanac Singers with Woody Guthrie, and, of course, some music from the Pirates of Penzance.

Wednesday, September 20

For the September Hispanic Heritage Month feature, Global Village devotes the entire show to the brief and wonderful world of Latin soul boogaloo. We’ll hear classics and rarities from the era from Joe Cuba, Joe Bataan, Ray Barretto, Johnny Colon, the Latinaires and more.

Global Village marks International Day of Peace, a day set aside by the United Nations since 1982 in support of world peace. The program highlights topical tunes from a variety of artists from around the world, including Third World, Vieux Farka Toure, Van Morrison, Sameer Gupta, the Holmes Brothers, Edwin Starr, String Cheese Incident and more.
