Taxi Drivers Start Customer Service Training

Wichita taxi drivers will soon begin training in customer service.

The first Taxi Driver Customer Service Training classes will take place Wednesday at the Go Wichita Convention & Visitors Bureau.

The two-hour class is part of the new requirements for drivers to obtain or renew their taxi license. The content was developed by city and Wichita Airport Authority officials, the Wichita Area Hotel/Lodging Committee, local cab companies, cab drivers, the Cross Cultural Assimilation Institute and Go Wichita. Drivers will learn about the city's regulations, tourism's economic impact and how to provide good customer service.

The Wichita Area Hotel/Lodging Committee asked the city to review taxi regulations after hearing about taxi service from hotel guests.

Jan Hiebert, Go Wichita director of visitor services, said the classes give drivers information they can pass on to visitors and make a friend on behalf of Wichita.
