Two Arrested In Connection With WSU Shooting

Aileen LeBlanc

Two people have been arrested on charges of first-degree murder in connection with the killing of a Wichita State student on the university’s campus this weekend.

Police say 19-year-old Eboni Fingal and 23-year-old Isaiah Copridge were booked into the Sedgwick County jail Sunday afternoon for felony murder in the death of Rayan Ibrahim Baba.

Officials with the university have confirmed that Baba was an undergraduate student in the college of engineering. Baba was found early Saturday morning near the Fairmount Towers residence hall with gunshot wounds. He was taken to the Wesley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Lou Heldman, vice president for strategic communications for WSU, says the police have determined that Baba knew the suspects and had planned to meet them near the location where he was shot. Heldman says the incident wasn’t a random act, so students and faculty do not need to be worried about safety on campus.
