Two Workers Die After Being Trapped In Wichita Grain Elevator

Shuttershock

Updated on Friday, Jan. 05 at 3:00 p.m:

According to a press release from Sedgwick County, the victims of the grain facility accident has been identified as Joshua Rasbold, 28, and Marcus Tice, 32.

Original Story:

Sedgwick County officials say two people died yesterday after being trapped in a grain elevator in south Wichita.

The county announced the bodies were recovered at about 5 p.m. Tuesday at the grain bin at Gavilon Grain.

Fire Deputy Chief Larry Tangney says emergency crews responded to the site about 2:30 p.m. after reports that two workers were trapped. It was not clear how the two got into the bin and what caused them to become trapped under 20 to 25 feet of grain.

The two workers have not been identified.

The company said in a statement late Tuesday that its "thoughts and prayers are with the workers’ families and loved ones. Our immediate concern is on caring for the families of the workers, conducting our internal investigation, and cooperating with the appropriate authorities in their investigation of the incident."

The elevator, formerly known as DeBruce Grain, was the scene of an explosion in June 1998 that killed seven people and injured 10 other workers.
