Acting U.S. Attorney for Kansas Tom Beall, along with the Riley County Attorney's Office, the Kansas Attorney General's Office and the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center, is sponsoring a conference on human trafficking on Tuesday.
More than 200 law enforcement officers and victim service providers are expected to attend the two-day conference in Manhattan, Kansas. Speakers will include Sedgwick County District Attorney Marc Bennett, Via Christi forensic nursing leader Tina Peck and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Hart. Craig Hill, a former Leawood deputy police chief who now works with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, will be the keynote speaker.
Beall calls human trafficking a "modern form of slavery" and says it’s "everyone’s problem."
According to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center, 43 cases of human trafficking were reported in Kansas in 2015.
