Several of the schools' health care programs are now in the old Airbus building in Old Town.

Wichita State University and Wichita Area Technical College on Thursday celebrated their new shared space in Old Town.

The former Airbus building at 1st and Mead is now home to several of WATC's health care programs -- including Surgical Technology, Practical Nurse, Healthcare Administration and Management, Certified Nurse Aide, Certified Medication Aide, and Home Health Aide -- and to WSU's Physician Assistant and Physical Therapy Departments.

Sheree Utash, president of WATC, speaks during Thursday's ceremony.

The facility includes a simulation hospital with a general emergency room, a labor and delivery room, exam rooms, and a surgical lab.

“This elevates our health care programs in this community to a level that we were only dreaming of," WATC president Sheree Utash said at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. "And now it’s a reality.”

WSU and WATC are in the process of forming an affiliation. The proposal still needs final approval from the Higher Learning Commission.
