Night Train marks birthdays of bassist Gary Peacock (with music he did with Bill Evans and as part of the Standards Trio with Keith Jarrett & Jack DeJohnette) and pianist Gerry Wiggins. Plus more music from May featured John Scofield and Sun Ra; also one of the 2014 Doris Duke Impact Award winners – Ben Monder; and new music from Pat Metheny, Bob Dorough, and the Klobas/Kesecker Ensemble.
Night Train teams up with Global Village and Strange Currency to celebrate the birthday of Stevie Wonder with some jazz covers of his songs. Then in hour two of the show, it’s a special exploring the Bad Plus and The Rite of Spring, a look at Stravinsky’s revolutionary composition and the re-making of it by the popular jazz-rock band.
