A Week Of Holiday Specials From Night Train And Jazz At Lincoln Center

Lots of seasonal favorites on tap tonight on the Night Train, including some Chipmunk and Charlie Brown Christmas songs, along with holiday music from jazz legend Dave Brubeck, pianist Duke Pearson, Paul Zauner's Christmas All Stars, and singers Betty Carter and Mary Stallings.

Join us on the Night Train for a show devoted to jazz versions of seasonal songs – from jazz holiday classics to contemporary holiday releases, including music from the New York Voices, Rene Marie, Wynton Marsalis, the Ted Rosenthal Trio, Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday, and the Vince Guaraldi Trio.

Wednesday 12.23.15

Night Train celebrates the season with a show devoted to holiday sounds – from classics and favorites to new and contemporary versions of holiday songs. Among the highlights – new holiday titles from Jazz at Lincoln Center, Kim Pensyl, Daniel Perantoni, Etienne Charles, the Fred Hughes Trio, and Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings. Plus holiday sounds from the Hollywood Tuba 12, Kermit Ruffins, the Yellowjackets, Duke Ellington, Pee Wee Ellis, Karrin Allyson, Matt Wilson, and Mary Stallings.

Night Train steps aside this Christmas Eve to bring you two holiday specials from Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center. In hour one, it’s a Red Hot Holiday Stomp as Wynton Marsalis hosts a Crescent City styled holiday show with father Elllis Marsalis and special guests Roberta Gumbel, Herlin Riley, Wycliffe Gordon and more. Then in hour two, Wynton Marsalis is back with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, and special guests Cecile McLorin Salvant, Gregory Porter and Rene Marie for A Swingin’ Holiday Jazz Party filled with lots of holiday and season favorites.

Chris Heim produces and hosts Global Village, a nationally and internationally distributed world music show; the nightly jazz show Night Train, and Crossroads, KMUW’s twice-weekly blues and R&B show. Chris is also a critic and freelance writer whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Utne, Global Rhythm, Dirty Linen, and Option, among others.
