The city of Wichita approved a Capital Improvement Program Tuesday afternoon that accounts for $1.9 billion in potential spending.
The Capital Improvement Program is meant to prioritize city projects for the next decade. While the funding isn’t guaranteed, it’s used as a wish list of sorts for improving Wichita. It includes millions of dollars for parks, water and sewer improvements, bike paths and public safety. But the plan’s main focus is improving streets and highways.
The city wants to incrementally increase the funding for repairing and repaving residential streets. The goal is to more than double the current amount by 2024.
The plan also calls for $255 million over five years to complete the Kellogg expansion to K-96.
And about $41 million is planned to go toward street improvements in down town, and another $31 million will help improve the streets and other infrastructure near Wichita State’s planned Innovation Campus, which includes the 17th Street corridor.
