Several events will take place in Wichita this weekend in remembrance of civil rights leader, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Activities are scheduled through the King federal holiday on Monday.

Saturday's kickoff event includes an MLK parade starting at Christian Faith Centre, on South Broadway, winding through downtown Wichita heading to the Chester I. Lewis Reflection Square on Douglas.

On Sunday, the Kansas African American Museum will host a celebration at Wichita's Century II Concert Hall featuring the Wiley College Choir from Texas. The museum will also recognize the 2013 recipients of the Definition of Greatness awards.

On Monday, The Greater Wichita Ministerial League and Wichita State will host their annual MLK event including segments of the presidential inauguration broadcast at the WSU Metroplex. On Thursday, Volunteers can also help assemble learning activity supply kits for area youth at WSU's Office of Multicultural Affairs.

An MLK Unity Walk, aimed at remembering and continuing Dr. King's legacy, will begin with a candle light procession at 5:00 p.m. outside of WSU's Heskett Center.

More information is available at our events calendar.
