Ahead of the holiday, 1500 Thanksgiving food boxes are set to be given away Saturday by a church in west Wichita.

Central Community Church will open up their parking lot for motorists to pick up Thanksgiving dinner. Last year the church distributed a thousand boxes--this year, even more. Missions Pastor Aaron Varner says it’s a way for the church to be a blessing to the community, and everyone is welcome.

"We are going to be starting to serve families. We're doing one box of food per car, and we’re only serving cars--no walk-ups or bicycles," Varner says. "We’re just basically wanting to give out a free meal to people who may not be able to purchase one for Thanksgiving."

The Thanksgiving food box will include a turkey or ham and other trimmings that should feed a family of four. No paper work is required to demonstrate need.

Central Community Church is located at 6100 W. Maple. The church parking lot will not be open until 7:00 a.m. Saturday. The Thanksgiving boxes will be distributed from 8 a.m. until 11 a.m.
