Wichita City Manager Gets First Pay Raise

The Wichita City Council today unanimously approved an 8 percent raise for City Manager Bob Layton.

The council had not given Layton a pay raise since he was hired in 2008, due to overall economic budget restraints.

All of the council members thanked Layton for his efforts including Jeff Longwell who says he appreciates the hard work that Layton has done on behalf of the citizens in the city.

"Not only have we been able to accomplish a great deal in terms of making our government more efficient, but we haven't hid from those large tasks like bringing Southwest Airlines to Wichita," said Longwell.

"It's been more than just kind of laying low we've actually gone out in front on several issues that have helped our city move forward."

Layton received a 2.5% cost of living adjustment last March. His new salary will be just over $204,000.
