Wichita Employers Looking To Hire New Staff Over Summer

This summer’s employment outlook is down from last year, but many local businesses are still looking to hire new staff.

A new survey from the employment company Manpower shows that 20 percent of Wichita employers are looking to boost their staff in the coming months. That’s down slightly from last quarter, when 22 percent of employers said they planned on new hires.

The survey also found that 7 percent of employers in Wichita plan on decreasing their staff between July and September. Last year, that number was just 5 percent.

A spokesman for Manpower says overall, local employers are expecting less hiring activity than in the summer of 2015. The state department of labor reported last month that while Kansas’ unemployment rate fell between March and April, overall job growth has stalled.
