Wichita's Intrust Bank Arena will host games in the 2022 Women's NCAA Basketball Tournament.

Intrust Bank Arena will host the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament in 2022.

Wichita was one of four cities selected to host Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games that year. Wichita State University will serve as the host school.

"It's another great day for sports in Wichita," Brian Hargrove, executive director of sports for Visit Wichita, said Wednesday. "We are looking forward to providing another energetic welcome to basketball fans to Wichita in 2022. The announcement today reaffirms that Wichita is a sports destination in the Midwest."

Intrust was the site of first- and second-round women’s games in 2011. It had the highest attendance of any neutral-site court that year.

The arena also hosted opening-round men’s games last March. It will host the men’s tournament again in 2021.

The men’s tournament this year drew large crowds to Intrust Bank Arena. Two of the teams that opened the tournament in Wichita – Michigan and the University of Kansas – advanced to the Final Four.

In addition to Wichita, other cities selected to host Sweet 16 and Elite Eight games in 2022 are Bridgeport, Conn,; Greensboro, N.C., and Spokane, Wash.
