The Wichita Police Department last week unveiled a new mobile app that should help the police connect with residents.
The free app can be used to get timely updates from the department, and send tips and complaints to police.
Officer Charlie Davidson: “Citizens can share information with us, which can help us find lost juveniles, find lost adults, find criminals," said WPD Officer Charley Davidson.
Information will be sent to police officers via a text message. Davidson said the app won’t be monitored around the clock, so it’s not a replacement for 911 during emergencies.
“What this is going to be is information that you can share with us, and it will be addressed in a timely manner," he said.
The app’s developer, LogicTree IT Solutions, says the program won’t mine user data. The app is also free of advertising.
