Teacher Cindy McGivery talks to student enrolled in the Wichita Adult Learning Center housed in the Chester I. Lewis Learning Center.

The USD 259 listening sessions continue on Thursday.

Thursday night's listening session will take place at Chester Lewis Academic Learning Center, which houses the Wichita Adult Learning Center as well as several other alternative learning programs. Teacher Cindy McGilvery says she's glad for the chance to show what these programs do.

"For example, if someone made it all the way to their senior year but did not pass government, and that’s all they need, then they take government with us and they earn their high school diploma just as they would have earned it in a traditional school.

"High school graduates make $9000 more a year, so it’s not just the students themselves who benefit, it’s also their children, their extended families. It’s not a stretch to say society as a whole benefits when there are more high school graduates."

Superintendent Alicia Thompson will hold a total of seven sessions around the district to gather input from teachers and the community. The information will help to inform the district's strategic plan.
