Kyle and Danae Goerl pick out pumpkins with their son, Wyatt.

The 16th annual pumpkin patch sale to support youth missions is open at Wichita’s East Heights United Methodist Church. Nearly 2100 pumpkins have been shipped in, offering a huge variety to choose from.

Much of the lawn is covered with several sizes of orange and white pumpkins, even ones you can hold in your palm. Kyle Goerl, his wife Danae, and their 3-year-old son, Wyatt, are picking pumpkins and placing them in a little red wagon for purchase. Danae says it's great family time.

"We live in the neighborhood," Danae says. "We just walked down here, and actually, East Heights is special for us because we were married here six years ago, and so we just came back to pick out a pumpkin together and [Wyatt's] having a fun time."

Danae says she also likes that the proceeds go to a good cause: youth missions at the church. They help underserved people in different parts of the country, including building community gardens, work at homeless shelters and assist with home repairs.
