Intrust Bank Arena will be host to a 2018 U.S. Figure Skating event.

Wichita has been selected as a host site for the U.S. Figure Skating 2018 Synchronized Skating Sectional Championships.

The competition will take place Jan. 24-28 at Intrust Bank Arena, and practices will take place at the Wichita Ice Center.

Synchronized skating features teams of up to 20 skaters performing themed routines, lasting less than five minutes and set to music that ranges from Disney and Broadway classics to jazz, hip hop and classical.

According to the Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission, the competition will bring more than 160 teams to Wichita, as well as 6,000 athletes, coaches and their families. The city expects the event to generate more than $3.4 million in local economic impact.

Wichita will also host the NCAA men's basketball tournament later that same year. The first two rounds of the tournament will be played at Intrust Bank Arena March 15 and 17, 2018.
