The Wichita Symphony Orchestra is seeking public input to help the organization plan for the future.

The Wichita Symphony launched an online survey to get feedback on things like the performance schedule and music style preferences.

Symphony CEO Don Reinhold says the community input will be used to help develop a new five-year strategic plan for the more than 70-year-old orchestra.

“We’re hoping to find effective strategies that will allow the symphony to appeal to current and new audiences while building on the symphony’s reputation as one of the nation’s outstanding regional orchestras,” Reinhold says.

Reinhold says symphonies nationwide are adapting to new economic realities and trying to find ways to add visual components to the concerts.

"If this art form is really going to survive, we can’t always be handing out cotton candy pops music all the time," Reinhold says. "That’s probably not going to be the answer."

The survey can be foundhere. It will close on September 29.

The strategic plan is expected to be completed this fall, and implemented immediately.

"This, I’m hoping, will turn out to be a very dynamic, fluid strategic plan that will allow us to adjust and adapt on the fly, season by season, as we go forward," Reinhold says.
