Wichita Woman Accused Of Embezzling Millions From Two Medical Businesses

The longtime business manager for two medical companies in Wichita is accused of embezzling millions of dollars since 2006.

A lawsuit filed in Sedgwick County District Court names Nancy Martin, her husband, Tom, and their 11 companies as defendants.

Nancy Martin is the business administrator for Emergency Services and Mid-Kansas Wound Specialists, two physician-owned companies serving Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

The lawsuit claims Martin wrote checks to herself and others on a regular and systematic basis for 11 years.

The companies report damages of more than $6 million. They’re seeking a jury trial.

Martin is a member of the Wichita State University National Advisory Council. She is also the past chair of the Wichita Community Foundation and the Wichita Downtown Rotary Club.

The lawsuit claims Nancy and Tom Martin used the embezzled funds to maintain an extravagant lifestyle, to support their businesses, and to acquire real estate.

The couple is also accused of using the embezzled funds for philanthropic causes such as charitable donations.

The lawsuit says the companies found out about the embezzlement in May after discovering an Internal Revenue Service audit dating back to 2015. When confronted about the audit, Nancy Martin revealed that she had “borrowed” some money from Mid-Kansas Wound Specialists and had paid some of it back.

Mid-Kansas and Emergency Services launched their own investigations and found embezzlement dating back to 2006.

Nancy Martin worked for Emergency Services for more than 30 years and Mid-Kansas Wound Specialists for 20 years.

The lawsuit includes three counts against the Martins: breach of fiduciary duty, theft/conversion and civil conspiracy/aiding and abetting.
