The holiday season is always big for entertainment. Lots of big movies come out, and video games, too.
The new entry in the Call of Duty series, Advanced Warfare, came out earlier this month. The series is best known for its multiplayer, but I really enjoyed the single player campaign. The story wasn’t overly complex, but it was compelling, not unlike a big Hollywood action movie. The appearance of Kevin Spacey as a villain in the vein of his character in "House of Cards" was a pleasant surprise.
2002’s iteration of the Pokémon franchise is getting a remake on the Nintendo 3DS. These games, Alpha Sapphire and Omega Ruby, have the same story as before, but with all the new features and Pokémon that have been introduced in the past decade. Nintendo has kept a pretty tight lid on this game, but based on what I’ve seen so far and Nintendo’s penchant for quality games, this will probably be the most polished installment in the series so far.
And speaking of remakes, all four of the main Halo games are now available for the Xbox One in a package called Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Headlining here is a complete remastering of Halo 2, and it is absolutely gorgeous. It’s been reprogrammed to take full advantage of the Xbox One, and it looks like a brand new game. The Master Chief Collection also has every Halo multiplayer map ever. That’s 106 unique maps.
The game I’m most looking forward to, though, comes out November 21: Super Smash Bros for the Wii U. I’ve put a lot of time into the 3DS version (and every Smash Bros game before it) but it feels like the Wii U release is the main event. It has everything the 3DS version has and more. I’m getting it right away so I can play it with my family after Thanksgiving dinner.
