Zimmy Turns 75 And We Take A Trip To Floyd’s Market

We celebrate Bob Dylan’s 75th birthday with selections from throughout his rich discography as well as covers of his songs from The Band, Nanci Griffith, Yo La Tengo and many more.

Wednesday, May 25

The Loma imprint was a subsidiary of Warner Bros. that began releasing singles in the mid-1960s. Some of the artists who wrote and/or recorded for the tiny imprint included Ashford & Simpson, Dr. John and Ike & Tina Turner. A new four-album set provides listeners with a chance to experience the label’s many facets. We’ll hear selections from Loma’s four-year run on this episode of Strange Currency.

Thursday, May 26

Fallen Angels is the latest release by Bob Dylan and features the Minnesota native’s interpretations of classic American songs. We’ll hear selections from it as well as from I Still Do, the latest release by Eric Clapton.

Friday, May 27

Released in 2003, It Moves is considered by many to be the best album from Kentucky’s My Morning Jacket. We’ll hear selections from that release as well as music from Spain’s latest release, Carolina.

Saturday, May 28

Moreland, Arbuckle & Floyd recorded one album together, 2006’s Floyd’s Market. The record features guest appearances from the late John Alex Mason and other friends of the band. We’ll hear selections from it as well as music from the Grateful Dead’s Dick’s Pick’s Volume 17 recorded in late 1991 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Monday, May 30

Listen for selections from the upcoming release by Bruce Hornsby & The Noisemakers, Rehab Reunion plus music from the latest by Bob Dylan, Fallen Angels.

Tuesday, May 31

Listen for selections from June featured artists The Cure and Paul McCartney.
