Crossroads is KMUW’s contemporary blues and soul show. Hosted by Chris Heim, the program highlights blues, R&B and soul from the post-war era to the present, from classic recordings to new releases, and from mainstream sounds to a diverse and wide-ranging collection of artists and recordings with roots in the blues and branches in nearly every other musical genre.

An impressive new set from Texas honky-tonker Delbert McClinton with an old musical buddy, Glen Clark, among the new release highlights this week at the Crossroads.

This week Crossroads highlights some of the newly announced winners in the Independent Music Awards and newly named NEA Heritage fellow Carol Fran - plus more for the June feature from Bobby Robinson’s labels, including work he did with blues legend Elmore James - and there’s new music including Delbert McClinton with ‘70s buddy Glen Clark, the Global Noize salute to Sly & the Family Stone, and Rory Block’s tribute to Mississippi John Hurt.

This was the first hit King Curtis had – recorded on one of Bobby Robinson’s labels that are featured throughout June at the Crossroads.

Crossroads highlights music from Bobby Robinson’s groundbreaking blues, R&B and doo wop labels throughout June – this time including the first hit from soul saxman King Curtis, favorites from both Lee Dorsey and Elmore James, a classic from Champion Jack Dupree, and a lost classic from Sandra Grimes. Plus the latest from Hadden Sayers, the 4 Jacks, the Fabulous Thunderbirds and classics from the Bar-Kays, Junior Wells, and Hound Dog Taylor.

April Feature: Muddy Waters Centennial Celebration

Though at some point in his life a few years were shaved off, credible evidence (including a marriage certificate, union card, social security filings and early interviews) all point to 1913 as the year of Muddy Waters' birth. And a century since that event, he remains one of the most influential figures in the blues.
