The Global Village Accordion Awareness Month celebrations continue with the instrument featured in music from merengue tipica master Francisco Ulloa; on the new contemporary exploration of Caribbean music from the John Santos Sextet; in the latest tango-jazz project from Mark Weinstein; and from Canadian world-chamber group Ensemble Polaris. Plus Afro-soul from Maloko and Angelique Kidjo, and Latin soul from percussion master Willie Bobo.

Monday June 10

Global Village celebrates the birthday of bossa nova pioneer Joao Gilberto with several of his classic songs, including one performed by daughter Bebel Gilberto, and his guest appearance with Stan Getz on their international hit, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Plus the latest from Beausoleil and a new import reissue featuring highlife band, C.K. Mann & his Carousel 7.

Throughout the month of June, Global Village scours the planet for remarkable and diverse squeezebox sounds.
