Tonight we hear new CDs from recent Wichita visitors The New York Voices and from guitarist Doug Mac Donald, and finish up the evening with three great pianists, Ahmad Jamal, Bill Evans and Jimmy Rowles.

Tonight we hear old and new, old from Paul Desmond, Gerry Mulligan, John Lewis and new from Brad Goode and Doug MacDonald.

On tonight's Straight No Chaser, we will hear from the inventor of the 7 string guitar George Van Eps, Zoot Sims and Eddie “Lockjaw” Davis, and a brand new CD from one of the best of the LA based guitarists, Doug MacDonald. His Reorganized Quartet brings him back to playing with a Hammond B-3 and is sure to please.

This week on SNC, we hear new music from the Jason Marsalis Vibes Quartet, Kevin Eubanks and singers Karen Marguth and Denise Donatelli, with older things from Woody Shaw, Johnny Hodges, Buck Clayton and Bud Shank.

Duke Ellington said “It Don’t Mean A Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing,” but that isn’t the case so much any more. Since we have been playing a lot of Count Basie, a real master of swing, tonight we pay careful attention to play only things that swing!

The Count Basie Band with the New York Voices will be appearing in Wichita at the Orpheum Theatre on Feburary 16. To aid your enjoyment, we have a special in-studio visit from Lisa Hittle who will discuss what we might expect as well as provide additional information about the band and the music.

Tonight we start to give you a taste of what to expect when the Count Basie band and the New York Voices appear at the Orpheum. Also, we will hear McCoy Tyner, Kenny Burrell and Gil Evans, Bud Powell and Ray Bryant.

Tonight is the last of the flood of Christmas Carols. We will hear from Gene Ammons, Don Patterson and Jimmy Smith. In non-seasonal selections, we hear several things written and performed by Phil Woods.

Tonight begins the annual tradition of jazz versions of holiday songs. We hear some from Dexter Gordon, Jimmy Smith, Jimmie McGriff, Wynton Marsalis and Bobby Timmons.
