A man involved in a racist incident at a rural Kansas college has been trying to gain a foothold in state politics.

The chalk outlines of bodies and messages including, “Make Lindsborg White Again,” that were scrawled on Bethany College sidewalks earlier this month rattled the campus and surrounding community.

A police report of the chalkings from Sept. 3 names Gabriel James Wilson as a suspect.

Emergency management workers are going out door-to door in Lindsborg  to assess damage from flash flooding that forced the evacuation of several homes.

Lindsborg residents started returning to their homes Tuesday morning as the waters receded.

City Administrator Greg DuMars said between 124 to 140 homes were flooded, mostly in an area that encompasses two subdivisions. Some places were submerged under as much as five feet of water.

Emergency crews used boats to evacuate about 35 or 40 people from their homes on Monday, but only one injury was reported.
