FBI, Wichita Law Enforcement Agencies Look To Prosecute 'Lasing'

The FBI has announced a partnership with local law enforcement in hopes more individuals are prosecuted for casting laser pointers at aircraft. Officials from the Wichita Airport Authority, Wichita Police Department and McConnell Air Force Base helped outline the plan Tuesday morning at Yingling Aviation, near Mid-Continent Airport. 

A $10,000 reward has been offered for any tips leading to the arrest of someone that’s pointed a laser at an aircraft

UPDATE: City Council Passes Motion To Change Mid-Continent To Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport

UPDATE:  Wichita's City Council has passed the motion to change Mid-Continent Airport into Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport. It will cost the city about $140,000 to change signs at the airport. It wasn't immediately clear when the new name would be posted.

Wichita's City Council will discuss whether to re-name Wichita's airport during their regular meeting on Tuesday.

Following a petition drive, council members are weighting whether to re-name Mid-Continent Airport as Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport.

Criminal Complaint Reveals Communications Between Loewen and Undercover FBI Agents

A would-be bomber was stopped at Wichita's Mid-Continent Airport Friday morning. He had been planning an alleged suicide bombing attack for many months.

The 58-year-old man, from Wichita, was an employee of an aeronautics company. Terry Loewen was arrested at a gate to the tarmac of the airport. Loewen tried to use his badge to open the gate, but the system had been disabled.

It was the end of a long sting operation conducted by undercover FBI agents.

Mid-Continent Airport Passenger Numbers Flying At Lower Altitude

Passenger numbers are in a holding pattern at the Mid-Continent Airport in Wichita.

The airport's latest passenger figures show the number of passengers fell four percent in December, compared to the same month of 2011. Nearly 116,000 passengers used the airport last month. That's down by almost 4,000 passengers from the previous year.

Crash Near Mid-Continent Airport Kills Fed Ex Pilot

A small plane crashed Tuesday south of Wichita's Mid-Continent Airport, killing the pilot.

The pilot, who was not identified, was the only person on board.

Tony Molinaro, spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration, says the pilot of the Cessna reported engine trouble shortly after taking off from Mid-Continent Airport. Molinaro says the pilot was trying to return to the airport when the crash occurred about two miles from Mid-Continent. He says the plane was headed to Garden City.
