Wichita city officials and District 1 residents used Saturday’s district gathering to get input about the neighborhood near 13th and Oliver. Within a week a Walmart grocery store and a QuikTrip gas and convenience store were closed, leaving few options for nearby residents.

The QuikTrip store at 13th and Oliver in northeast Wichita is expected to close for good Thursday night. It follows the Walmart Neighborhood Market that closed nearby last week. One city official is assessing the area and seeking input on what's next for the property.

Walmart has announced they’re closing three Neighborhood Market grocery stores in Wichita. Come February, the Central and West, Harry and Web, and 13th and Oliver locations will all be shuttered.

Kansas Food Bank Receives Walmart Grant

Through Walmart's Fighting Hunger Together initiative, a Walmart store in Wichita gave a $50,000 grant to help expand the Kansas Food Bank of Wichita's backpack program.

Debi Kreutzman, community relations manager at Kansas Food Bank, said they were proud of the local community for participating in the effort.
